Brewed for Business: Account Manager Turns Coffee Company Owner in East Lansing

Shamone Beasley isn’t your traditional buttoned-up CEO — and he prefers to keep it that way.

As the owner at the East Lansing-based The Bean Brothers Coffee, Beasley leads his team achieve their passions for greatness by simply serving people with a cup of coffee and a huge helping of support along the way.

Beasley’s company, which provides coffee drinkers with premium African coffee (and other origins and gourmet blends) told the Michigan Chronicle that it starts with a business idea – his happened to include one with roasted beans-turned coffee that he sells to B2B establishments, bakeries, specialty stores and more.

“I actually started The Bean Brothers Coffees last year in the mist of the pandemic in July,” Beasley said adding that he was initially laid off for three months at his job from March to June and he did not receive unemployment. “My family was living off of my savings and 401K, which basically, I ran out of.”

Beasley (who has account managing and sales experience) eventually left his job and put his sales background to use and got to work building up a business from the ground up. “Starting during the pandemic was really a smart move. As everything was closed down so, online sales sky rocketed.”

Beasley’s business is currently online-based, but he has plans to open up a coffee truck in 2022.

“Our business model is, ‘We roast to order,’” he said adding that the company caters more for those who like an appreciate a great cup of coffee.

“I love educating people about coffee. Especially, African coffee,” Beasley said adding that everyone drinks his coffee with over 40 coffee blends from around the world.

Beasley, who also services metro Detroit and around the country, said that his company has purposefully collaborated with other businesses (especially women and minority-owned) to let others know they are supported with a strong business backing them – and an even stronger cup of coffee.

“We first invest in people’s dreams, goals and passions. It’s a true saying people really do make the world go around. We all need each other,” according to a post on the

company website. “This company started with the standard and the vision to reach across the Atlantic to the continent of Africa and help directly and indirectly the African coffee farmers and their communities.

“To have partners that help produce and support and purchase their coffee beans. Primarily, we wanted to offer Premium African Coffee then move into other origins. So, today we are proud to say we offer some of the world’s most beloved Premium coffee from the Motherland of Africa first! And beans from other regions around the world.”

The Beans Brothers’ plan to achieve that is simple with two instructions they’ve made their motto:

“Love people and #SipGood.”

We can always drink to that.
