Youth Community Agency is hosting their First Annual Charity Telethon, Saturday, December 5, 2020, 1-4 p.m. EST. This holiday season, their goal is to raise $50,000 to fund their housing program to curb homelessness. This will allow the organization to implement their three-phase housing program for urban teenage mothers and families in the community. The proceeds will also fund a pilot program that will provide resources and relatable support for job readiness to teenage mothers.
“No matter what’s happening in the world, giving to others is the reason for this season,” says YCA founder Rodnesha Ross. “When people fall on hard times, they need more than kind words, they need second chances. YCA finds joy in giving families second chances with resources, housing, compassion and more.”
The three-phase housing program will entail:
·Phase 1: Collaboration with shelters or hotels to secure emergency shelter placement for families living in the cold or their cars.
·Phase 2: Assist families with obtaining and settling into their own homes by acquiring properties owned by YCA. The target is to have least one apartment building and homes specifically for our families in need.
·Phase 3: Clients who have previously stayed at one of our properties and have completed the required workshops, will qualify for homeownership through a land contract.
Since its inception five years ago, YCA has empowered, mentored and supported hundreds of at-risk families. It has served over 300 teenage mothers and children within the Metro Detroit Area. They have also eased the burden of this pandemic, by assisting over 200 families with PPE kits and essentials. This past summer, YCA helped a family move into affordable housing that became theorganization’s first residential property. Even amidst these unprecedented times YCA is fulfilling its mission, which is why founder Rodnesha Ross was recently recognized by ESSENCE as a 2020 Essential Hero.
Detroit’s own and NBC’s The Voice season 16 contestant, Beth Griffith-Manley will give a live performance of her enchanting holiday single, “Christmas Lullaby/O Holy Night.” Additional afternoon highlights include gourmet small plates (in person), dancing, a silent auction, and presentation of seven Difference Maker Awards. Due to COVID-19, a limited number of guests are invited to attend the Charity Telethon in person. The remaining guests are encouraged to join us virtually via Zoom. Virtual admission and VIP Tickets are available on eventbrite (https://ycatelethon2k20.eventbrite.com/).

About Youth Community Agency
Youth Community Agency is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit whose primary focus is to empower young mothers with the
resources and support they need to ensure completion of their education and curb homelessness. YCA was
created to remind people about the often overlooked teenage mothers, while encouraging entrepreneurs and
organizations to give back to the Detroit area. As a single mother of four, founder Rodnesha Ross understands
the challenges that mothers endure. “It was only right for me to create this organization because I am a success
from my community and I didn’t gain it alone,” Ross says. “It was with the help of my parents and my community.” YCA has been featured on local and national media outlets such as Click on Detroit and ESSENCE magazine.
