PASADENA, Calif. — In the aftermath of the complete blackout in the Oscars nominations debacle, the 2016 NAACP Image Awards in suburban Los Angeles had an extra flair and buoyancy to it.
“Black-ish star Anthony Anderson hosted the 47th Image Awards at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium and included A-listers as Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith, Taraji P. Henson, Michael B. Jordan, Ice Cube and son O’Shea Jackson Jr., Terrence J, Spike Lee and Kerry Washington.
Jordan was the big winner of the evening, taking home Entertainer of the Year and Outstanding actor of the Year. “Empire” franchise star Taraji P. Henson won Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series, Tracee Ellis Ross of “Black-ish” snatched up Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series, while Sanaa Lathan earned Outstanding Actress in a Motion Picture honors. Singer-songwriter John Legend was bestowed the President’s Award for his contributions to the community.
