The Michigan Chronicle and Radio One’s first annual Best in Black Awards gives metro-Detroiters the chance to vote in over 40 categories for the best black churches, businesses, entrepreneurs, community leaders and more.
The Best in Black Awards is an effort to highlight and celebrate the influence African Americans have made to the city of Detroit.
The restaurant category received over 400 votes for the first round of nominations.
The top ten nominations will go on to the voting round. The top three nominations we received for this category were SavannahBlue, Beans & Cornbread and Floods Bar & Grille.
Savannah Blue offers upscale southern cuisine with all items under $30.
Savannah Blue said the restaurant “is gathering place where people can enjoy a delicious meal in our Dining Room or simply meet up to relax and converse over drinks and appetizers at the bar in our Living Room.”
The ambiance Savannah Blue said “is cool, comfortable and inviting and is fully complemented by a rich and soulful soundtrack (the Sounds of Savannah).”
The menu “offers Contemporary Northern Soul food– fresh ingredients prepared with Southern flavors, presented with Detroit style.”

Beans & Cornbread is a southern bistro located in Southfield, MI. They offer a menu of southern favorites like fried chicken and Michigan-grown collard greens. Beans & Cornbread said “Southern flavors and spices drift out of the open kitchen tantalizing the palates of diners that crowd into the restaurant from open to close.”
All menu items are under $20.
The bistro also operates the Sidebar Wine & Martini Bar and Red Velvet, a luxury VIP suite for up to 50 people, both located in the same shopping plaza.
Beans & Cornbread offers a Sunday brunch from 11am-2pm and offers lunch and dinner each day of the week.
