BCB Mastermind CEO Intensive Brings Cannabis Education Series to Detroit

The BCB Mastermind CEO Intensive, a pioneering education initiative, has announced its expansion to Detroit, marking the first time in its three-year history that the program will be hosted in the city. Powered by Parallel, a leading multi-state cannabis company, the Detroit Cohort will take place on September 19th and 20th. This no-cost program provides vital mentorship, training, and key industry insights specifically tailored for minority entrepreneurs and executives looking to break into or expand within the cannabis sector.

“With Michigan’s cannabis industry surpassing $3 billion in sales, the opportunity for minority entrepreneurs to thrive is immense,” said Todd Hughes, co-founder of BCB Mastermind. “Thanks to the continued support of Parallel, we are empowering leaders across the nation, from Massachusetts to Alaska, to take their place in this booming market. By bringing our proven program to Michigan, we are equipping minority business leaders with the skills, knowledge, and network they need to drive change and shape the future of the cannabis industry, locally and nationwide.”

Since its inception, the BCB Mastermind has hosted over 10 cohorts in cities like Boston, Tampa, and Austin, working with more than 250 executives leading plant-touching and ancillary cannabis businesses. The program is committed to breaking down barriers that disproportionately impact Black and minority entrepreneurs in the cannabis space.

“BCB Mastermind’s mission is to dismantle those barriers and provide the resources minority entrepreneurs need to succeed,” said Brandon L. Wyatt, Esq., co-founder of BCB Mastermind. “We are building a future where inclusion drives the cannabis market, ensuring those who helped lay the foundation for this industry now have the opportunity to prosper within it.”

A 2023 survey found that minorities account for less than 19% of cannabis business owners. BCB Mastermind, with the sponsorship of Parallel, aims to change that by offering comprehensive training that combines virtual workshops with in-person mentorship. The program has become an essential incubator for CEOs of color in the cannabis industry.

“We are excited to bring our program to Detroit, a market we’ve been monitoring closely due to its remarkable growth, even surpassing California,” said Jervonne Singletary, Senior Director of Government Relations for Parallel. “Our partnership with BCB Mastermind aims to empower entrepreneurs of color, remove barriers to entry, and foster a more inclusive and equitable cannabis industry.”

In addition to the CEO Intensive, BCB Mastermind will host a Cannabis Equity Mixer on September 20th at The Shadow Gallery at 6 p.m. The event is open to the public and encourages networking and discussions about promoting a more inclusive cannabis landscape.

One of the upcoming Detroit Cohort participants, Mitzi Ruddock of Black Cannabis Access, expressed her anticipation of joining the program.

“Being in an environment with driven, like-minded individuals offers not only inspiration but also the support and accountability needed to achieve new heights,” said Ruddock. “This experience is about more than just networking; it’s about creating meaningful connections, gaining valuable insights, and contributing to a legacy of Black excellence.”

Dr. Donise Floyd of Legacy Greens, who participated in the 2023 BCB Mastermind Southern Cohort, reflected on how the program’s impact could shape the Detroit market.

“The BCB Mastermind Cohort will undoubtedly influence the future of the cannabis industry, providing the tools and network needed to drive lasting change,” said Floyd. “I look forward to seeing how our collective efforts will foster innovation, equity, and growth, setting a new standard for what’s possible in Detroit’s vibrant business landscape and beyond.”

As the cannabis industry continues to grow at a rapid pace, programs like the BCB Mastermind CEO Intensive play a critical role in ensuring minority entrepreneurs are not left behind but are instead equipped to lead and thrive in this evolving space.
