Baker College Hosts Royal Oak Art Walk in Downtown Celebration!

Baker College is excited to join forces with the Royal Oak Arts Council as the proud host and partner for the very first Royal Oak Art Walk. On Friday, August 11th, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., art enthusiasts, families, and friends will come together in the heart of the city’s downtown to celebrate creativity.

This evening will be dedicated to honoring the city’s vibrant art scene, offering attendees a delightful free, self-guided tour of captivating art exhibits scattered throughout stores, restaurants, galleries, lobbies, and even the college’s common areas. The experience promises to unveil hidden gems of artistic expression as visitors explore various locations within downtown.

Within the Baker College Royal Oak campus, situated at 420 Lafayette Ave., a treasure trove of art pieces awaits. Attendees will have the unique chance to engage with the artists, learn about their inspirations, and even acquire distinctive artwork to add to their collections. As an extra treat, music will fill the air, enhancing the ambiance as visitors explore the remarkable seven-level state-of-the-art flagship campus, which opened its doors just this past January.

“Baker College is deeply committed to making positive contributions both economically and socially through our student engagement and community involvement in the City of Royal Oak. The Art Walk aligns perfectly with one of our core values: social responsibility. Partnerships like this allow us to stay true to our mission and core values,” stated Kelly Garrett, Baker College Royal Oak Campus Director.

Alongside the art-focused activities, attendees are encouraged to take full advantage of the exceptional shopping opportunities in the area. Boutiques will proudly display one-of-a-kind treasures that harmonize with the artistic spirit of the event. Participating venues may also offer beverages, hors d’oeuvres, or desserts, adding to the evening’s sense of fun and leisure.

“Art has the power to enrich our perspectives and create space for thoughtful discussions. An art walk ensures that art remains accessible and appreciated by all members of society, regardless of age, economic status, or cultural background. It will bring people together from different neighborhoods within Royal Oak, strengthening our sense of community,” expressed Corrine Elizabeth, Royal Oak Arts Council Volunteer.

This incredible event is proudly sponsored by the Royal Oak Arts Council and the Royal Oak Commission for the Arts, in collaboration with the City of Royal Oak and the Downtown Development Authority, and best of all, it is entirely free for the public to enjoy.
