Arrest warrant issued for UAW's Holiefield after wife shot

UAW Vice President General Holiefield
What police officials first concluded was an accidental shooting is apparently a more sinister crime then anyone imagined. UAW Vice President General Holiefield is suspected of shooting his wife in their Harrison Township home last month, following a more in depth investigation  by local authorities.

Sheriff’s officials presented their findings  to the Macomb County Prosecutor’s office and as a result a warrant was issued for Holiefield’s arrest, according to Lt. John Michalke, spokesman for the sheriff’s department. Holiefield, who was not in police custody Friday, faces a charge of reckless use of a firearm. The crime is a misdemeanor and carries up to 90 days in jail and a $500 fine.
According to the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office, a 911 call came into the dispatch office about 8:30 p.m. Dec. 30 reporting a shooting at the home in the 39700 block of Mazuchet, near the southern part of the Selfridge Air National Guard Base.
“Deputies learned that the 60-year-old homeowner was cleaning his 45 Desert Eagle semi-automatic handgun at the kitchen table when it accidentally discharged,” said the sheriff’s office in a release. “A single round was fired, which struck his wife in the abdomen.”
EMS personnel from the Harrison Township Fire Department were quickly on the scene, according to Sgt. Christian Syoen.
“We had her out of there and on the way to McLaren Macomb County Hospital in about four minutes,” Syoen said. “It appeared to be accidental. There didn’t appear to be anything violent about the scene.”
His wife, Monica Morgan, 50, underwent surgery and has been recovering. Michalke said her condition was unknown Friday.
According to the sheriff’s office, Holiefield and several friends had gone shooting at an indoor range in Roseville. They all went to dinner and then back to the home in Harrison Township.
The group began cleaning their guns at the kitchen table when the homeowner attempted to clear his weapon and it discharged, the sheriff’s office said. Sheriff’s detectives interviewed all of the people who were present in the home during the incident and everyone was cooperative, according to the release.
