ARISE Detroit! is once again partnering with Detroit Public Schools (DPS) for the organization’s 10thannual Neighborhoods Day on Saturday, August 6. Businesses and organizations are being encouraged to adopt a school and help beautify it for the upcoming school year.
DPS has submitted 11 schools that are seeking adoption partners for Neighborhoods Day. Each school has developed its own wish list and project request. The community service projects being requested include painting, planting gardens and flowers, repairing sports fields, mowing lawns, plumbing repairs, boarding up nearby vacant homes, and more.
Last year, 12 schools were adopted by businesses and community organizations. PNC Bank has already adopted three schools for this year’s Neighborhoods Day.
Neighborhoods Day activities include cleanup projects, building new housing, back-to-school fairs, garage sales, community art displays, church programs, health fairs, youth concerts, parades, anti-crime events, and volunteer recruitment. Local block clubs, churches, associations, businesses, and community groups select the activities for their neighborhoods. ARISE Detroit! assists in the organization and promotion of the events.
Groups that want to adopt a Detroit school should e-mail their contact information to: info@arisedetroit.org or call 313-921-1955. The participating schools are listed below and on the ARISE Detroit! website:www.arisedetroit.org.
