“STAND4CHANGE 2013” – AN ANTI-BULLYING RALLY –

IN CAMPUS MARTIUS PARK

Mich.-based Non-Profit to Bring Together More Than Two Million Students in Michigan and Across 30 Countries in Historic Stand Against Bullying Day

 

Defeat The Label, a Bloomfield Hills, Mich.-based anti bullying non-profit, dedicated to empowering students to take a stand against bullying in their own schools and communities, today announced STAND4CHANGE Against Bullying Day, an International call to action against bullying taking place across the world on Friday, May 3, 2013.

The local Stand4Change rally, taking place in Campus Martius, will be emceed by WYCD 99.5’s Dr. Don, and will provide local students, educators, businesses and residents an opportunity to publicly show their support the global Defeat the Label movement, including a concert by Atlantic Records Country Artist Ty Stone.

Attendees will also hear an impassioned plea from Kevin Epling, the father of Matt Epling. Matt ended his life in 2002 after being bullied and who the legislation, ” “Matt’s Safe School Law,” was written for. The Rally also will feature eight food trucks from the metro Detroit area to feed the participants for lunch.

Quicken Loans and CBS Radio Detroit are proud local supporters of the event, in partnership with several educational organizations, including: National Educational Association (NEA), Anti Defamation League (ADL), American Association of School Administrators (AASA) and American Federation of Teachers (AFT).

DETAILS: The event is free. Defeat the Label representatives will be soliciting donations from supporters to provide financial support for the launch of a first-of-its-kind interactive application, BullyShout, which will be integrated with the National 24 hour BRAVE (Building Respect, Acceptance and Voice through Education) Anti-Bullying Hotline. In the State of Michigan, the Senate delivered a proclamation last year making the first Friday of May an official “Stand 4 Change” day, and with the support of the National Educational Association, the initiative has become an international movement, with 170 countries and 30 million teachers worldwide invited to participate.
