America's favorite dad Bill Cosby has become the anti-Huxtable

bill-cosby-141118Happy New Year? Not for Bill Cosby.
To date, an estimated 50 women have accused Cosby of drugging and/or sexually assaulting them. Cosby has, of course, adamantly denied all of the allegations. Wasn’t him. Has no idea what they’re talking about.
Ever since the first few allegations began to surface, Cosby has been steady denying, denying, denying, and no small number of supporters have just as steadfastly refused to believe that Cosby could possibly be capable of such a horrifically un-Huxtable-like act as drugging unsuspecting young females and then raping them. Most of those who have so steadfastly refused to entertain the mere possibility that Cosby could be this depraved have never met the man and know absolutely nothing about what he is really like, which is to say that many folks just can’t believe Cosby is THAT good of an actor.
But now the list of accusers is up around 50, and as of today, two days shy of the New Year, Cosby has been formally hit with three felony charges of aggravated indecent assault in a case tied to a 2004 accusation in Montgomery County.
Are some of the women accusing Cosby lying in an attempt to get some money? Very possibly. But all 50? Uhhh…no. Anyone who thinks that 50 women accusing the same man of rape are all lying needs to cut back on the drugs and pay attention.
We’re talking about 50 women here, folks.
I recently overheard a conversation among some colleagues who speculated on what percentage of the women were lying. The range was roughly from 10 percent to 30 percent. So let’s be generous and go with the 30 percent. That equals roughly 15 liars. So subtract the 15 liars from the 50 total and you still get 35 women who are telling the truth about being drugged and raped by Bill Cosby.
So, OK, maybe they shouldn’t have banned the reruns of  “The Cosby Show.” Cosby’s contributions to the world of comedy, and his role in advancing race relations via the entertainment industry is indisputable. That can’t be erased. Fair enough.
From CNN:

“The criminal investigation into Cosby in Montgomery County was reopened in July after new evidence came to light,  (Montgomery County prosecutor Kevin) Steele said.

“The evidence was court documents related to a civil suit that Constand filed against Cosby after prosecutors declined to seek charges against the comedian, citing insufficient evidence.

“Constand settled the civil case against Cosby in 2006.

“This past July — nine years after the civil case was settled — a judge decided to unseal Cosby’s deposition in that case in response to a motion by the media.

“In it, Cosby admits he had sexual relationships with at least five women outside his marriage, gave prescription sedatives to women he wanted to have sex with and tried to hide affairs from his wife.

“When the deposition was released and “we learned about allegations from other victims under similar circumstances, reopening this case was not a question,” Steele said. “Rather, reopening this case was our duty as law enforcement officers with a sworn obligation to uphold our constitutions and to uphold the law.”

So is this the kind of guy you would have wanted going out with your sister?
