Name: Alyson Thomas

College:Oakland University

What Excites you most about going to college? Growing as student, academically and becoming a better writer. I am a social butterfly, I want to join the Black
student Union as the president or secretary and becoming an independent young woman.

What does BLM mean to you as a new student:   The BLM movement is imperative for where I’m
Going. OU is a PWI (predominantly white institution) I feel like this movement has made me more aware of what to expect even on or off campus. I went to Renaissance, which was basically like an HBCU, this will be different for Me. This has prepared for the worst-case scenario.

Advice to Current Highschool Student: Do not take any day for granted. You wake up one day as a freshman and the next day a scenario. Don’t be afraid to step Out of Your curiosity. I say “You dropped the ball, so what? get back in the game” don’t be too hard on yourself if you fall, but you can’t stay down.
