AKA_ladies-4ec38081The Metropolitan Detroit and Ann Arbor chapters of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated commemorate 108 years of sisterhood and service with a Joint Founders’ Day luncheon, Launching New Dimensions of Service & Celebrating 108 Years of Sisterhood, on Saturday, Jan. 16, at the Detroit Marriott Hotel Renaissance Ballroom. The program begins at noon with seating at 11:30 a.m. The Vendors’ Boutique will begin at 10 a.m.
Underscoring the sorority’s current international program, Launching New Dimensions of Service and the commitment to community enrichment, the event will bring together Alpha Kappa Alpha members and guests from around the region including members of other fraternal organizations and local government officials.
Tamara Winfrey Harris, author of The Sisters Are Alright: Changing the Broken Narrative for Black Women in America will deliver the event’s keynote address. Harris, a native of Indiana and a graduate of Greenlee School of Journalism at Iowa State University and Maynard Institute’s Editing Program for Minority Journalists, is a writer specializing in the ever-evolving space where current events, politics, and pop culture intersect with race and gender.
