Alcorn State University’s main campus is located on 1,700 acres of beautiful rolling hills and lakes in Alcorn State (Lorman), Mississippi. Two other campuses are located in Natchez and Vicksburg, Mississippi. Alcorn was organized in 1871 and is the oldest historical black land grant institution in the United States. Its graduates are represented in academia, business, and industry throughout the country. Approximately twenty-five students from the Detroit area and throughout Michigan attend Alcorn. The Alcorn State University Choral Department is rich in both history and talent. Students come from diverse backgrounds across America and perform at the highest level in classical, spiritual and jazz. Performing ensembles at the University include a forty two-member Concert Choir (the only ensemble on this spring tour), a Men’s Chorale, Women’s Choir Jazz Band, Wind Ensemble, Opera and Musical Theatre Workshops and Marching Band. The ensembles perform for special events throughout the region and have toured throughout the United States. They have performed at Carnegie Hall, at the Presidential Inauguration in Washington D.C. for President George W. Bush and Disney World.

In 2014, our Alumni representatives participated in more than 40 college and career fairs and interacted with approximately 700 high school students at various schools, churches, and community events.

The Detroit Alumni Chapter has provided more than $68,000 in financial support to the university, including scholarships to 43 Detroit Metropolitan area students and provides assistance to other community organizations in the last ten years. Your generous donations to events such as this will help us to continue to support scholarships.
