Dang, talk about drama.
As we’ve reported, Juan McFarland, an Alabama pastor at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Montgomery has AIDS, slept with members of the church, and refused to step down after he was fired.
Now we’ve learned that church deacons have filed suit against McFarland alleging that he changed the locks on the church and one of his supporters threatened to shoot them.
As a result of that suit, on Thursday, Judge Charles Price of Alabama’s 15th Judicial Circuit Court ruled for the deacons – via a preliminary injunction – after a Thursday hearing and ordered McFarland, 47, to turn over the church keys, return the church owned Mercedes and relinquish the church bank accounts by the end of the day, according to the NY Daily News and WFSA-TV.
Church members hugged and prayed after the ruling. “Now we’ve got the church back, and the healing can begin,” said Lois Caffey, a member for 21 years.
The judge scheduled a hearing Dec. 1 to decide whether to issue a permanent injunction.
Lee Sanford, chairman of the board of trustees, said the challenge now is to reunite the 170 active members of the congregation.
“I’m confident with God’s help we will be able to do that,” he said.
WFSA, also reports that McFarland, who confirmed the content of the sermon, was present at the hearing but did not speak.
