AKA Sorority to host Community Baby Shower in Collaboration with Gianna House Foundation

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®, Omega Epsilon Omega Chapter in Novi, Michigan, warmly invites members of the community to join in supporting the Gianna House Foundation at a community baby shower on Sunday, April 30, 2023, at 2 p.m. The event will be held at the Novi Civic Center, located at 45175 West 10 Mile Road, with the goal of assisting in the restoration and restocking of baby supplies that were damaged during the winter storm on December 26, 2022. Your participation in this worthy cause will make a meaningful difference in the lives of young, pregnant, and at-risk girls and women in need.

In 2009, the Gianna House Foundation was established as a transition from the covenant of St. Veronica Church. Since then, the foundation has provided invaluable support to hundreds of young, pregnant, and at-risk girls and women for their pregnancies and infants. In addition to its supportive programs, the Gianna House Foundation also operates the Gianna House Pregnancy and Parenting Residence, offering shelter and assistance to young women who are pregnant or have a baby under one year old.

In addition to its core programs, the Gianna House Foundation provides a community outreach program that offers support to mothers of infants and young children. This program includes a variety of classes aimed at parenting skills, personal growth, spiritual journey, life skills, and enrichment activities like crochet, sewing, yoga, and scrapbooking. As an incentive, participating mothers have the opportunity to earn “baby bucks,” which can be used to purchase essential baby items from the foundation’s baby shop. This unique offering empowers mothers and promotes self-sufficiency, while also fostering a sense of community and support within the Gianna House Foundation.

“This is considered a ‘hand-up’ rather than a ‘hand-out,'” said Joella E. Bush, Executive Director of the Gianna House Foundation. “Gianna’s program empowers mothers and provides a supportive community where they can share experiences and seek guidance.”

If you would like to donate, you can visit the Gianna House Foundation baby registry on Amazon. Monetary donations are also accepted. For more information, please contact LaRhonda Richardson at (248) 686-8959 or Lekisha Maxwell at (313) 220-0399. Your support will make a meaningful difference in the lives of young mothers and their babies in need.
