Ford Motor Company Fund celebrated the achievements of more than 175 graduating seniors from 10 Detroit-area high schools at the sixth annual Blue Oval Scholarship program. The awards, ranged from $250 to $1,000, and were presented June 12 at 5:30 p.m. at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History.
Blue Oval Scholarships encouraged students to show improvement in their academic achievement and overall school performance and encouraged pursuit of post-high school educational goals. In the six-year history of the program, Ford awarded $600,000 in scholarships to assist over 800 Detroit-area high school students with tuition, books, fees and other educational costs.
This year’s recipients attended one of 10 area high schools: Central Collegiate Academy, Cody, Osborn, Southeastern and Western – all in Detroit; and Harper Woods High School, Mt. Clemens High School, Pontiac High School, River Rouge High School and Ypsilanti High School.
“At Ford Motor Company, student achievement is our mantra and supporting the next generation of leaders is critical to the growth of our communities,” said Jim Vella, president, Ford Motor Company Fund and Community Services. “The Blue Oval Scholarship program reinforces academic excellence and encourages high school students to pursue their goals so they may become reality.”
The Ford Blue Oval Scholarship program provided more than $1 million in scholarships to more than 1,000 students each year.
