Mike’s Market and University Commonwealth are thrilled to announce the 15th Annual ‘Jazz on the Ave’ customer appreciation event, set to take place along the vibrant and historic Livernois Avenue of Fashion on Saturday, August 5. This family-friendly celebration promises a day of music, art, and delicious food, and it has become a beloved tradition that brings the community together.
“We are excited to celebrate the 15th year of Jazz on the Ave block party on the Historic Livernois Avenue of Fashion,” said Lolita Haley, Executive Director of University Commonwealth. “Jazz on the Ave started as a small customer appreciation event, and it has grown in size and participation each year. I look forward to seeing everyone who comes out to enjoy a fun day on the Historic Livernois Avenue of Fashion.”
The event will feature live performances on the James Tatum Stage, starting from 11 am and continuing until 8 pm. Attendees will have the opportunity to enjoy the musical talents of various local artists, making it an unforgettable experience for jazz enthusiasts and music lovers alike.
In addition to the live performances, there will be Drop-in Art Making with the Detroit Institute of Arts, providing a creative outlet for visitors of all ages. Furthermore, Mike’s Market will offer free food while supplies last in their parking lot, ensuring everyone gets a taste of the neighborhood’s delicious culinary offerings.
The festivities will extend from 6 Mile to 8 Mile, encompassing the businesses along Livernois, which will also participate in the day of fun and appreciation. The Avenue of Fashion Business Association is proud to be a part of this event and invites everyone to experience great food, exciting discounts, fabulous music, and much more during the 15th Annual Jazz on the Ave Customer Appreciation Day.
Dolphin Michael, President of the Avenue of Fashion Business Association, shared his enthusiasm for the event, stating, “We will have live music performances throughout the day, a fashion show, a classic car show, and a bid whist party that’s open to anyone interested in participating at 18985 Livernois. Come join us this Saturday for a great day of fun for the entire family.”
The performances on the James Tatum Stage promise to be outstanding, showcasing the talents of various artists from the community. Attendees can look forward to captivating performances by the Al Livingston Band, Lady Champayne, Allen Dennard Band, Deblon Jackson & Friends, Renee King Jackson, Aisha Ellis Band, Circle of Sound Band, and the Carmen Miller Band.
Jamal Abro, owner of Mike’s Market, reflected on the event’s history, saying, “We started hosting this back in 2008, and every year, participation keeps growing. We provide free food, a bounce house for children, and parking on the Livernois side of the store. This event gives us the opportunity to thank our community for their support, and we look forward to it every year.”
