Youth Community Agency has partnered with metro Detroit organizations to
provide $20,000 in COVID-19 aid for low income families and teenage mothers.YCA is facilitating this
initiative with the help of funds donated by Wayne Metro Community Action Agency, DTE foundation
and United Way of Southeastern Michigan. COVID-19 has affected people from various backgrounds and
socioeconomic levels, yet those who lack access to essential resources are hit the hardest.YCA aims to mitigate
some of the adverse effects on families that reside in Wayne County.
“Falling on hard times or being less fortunate has no age, race or specific circumstance, to be in need,” says
Rodnesha Ross CEO/Founder of Youth Community Agency. “At YCA, we believe everyone deserves a second
chance and a supportive shoulder to lean on. If we don't support our community during hardship, who will?”
Since its inception seven years ago, YCA has assisted over 300 teenage mothers and their families with diapers
and clothing, life skills training, housing, mentoring and more. During their annual Hotdogs for Hope event,
they give lunch to less fortunate families in the Cass Corridor area in midtown Detroit, along with hygiene kits
and resources. Another annual event is Blessings in a Bag, for which the organization and volunteers collect
gently used purses and fill them with personal care items and nonperishable snacks.
YCA has also provided information and resources related to COVID-19 throughout the pandemic. Families
affected by this current crisis can apply for funding and support here
(https://www.youthcommunityagency.org/apply-for-covid-19-support.html). They can also apply at
youthcommunityagency.org. Families will begin receiving funds on or around, August 19. Donations for
ongoing services and support are accepted via Cash App: $youthcommunityagency and PayPal. Follow Youth
Community Agency, on Instagram and Facebook @youthcommunityagency, for updates.
