Family Nature Hike
Saturday, August 22 from 10:00 a.m-11:30 a.m.
Join a naturalist for an enjoyable walk in the Holliday Nature Preserve and learn about the many plants and animals that live there. Bug spray and good walking boots/shoes are recommended. Meet at the Cowan section of the Holliday Nature Preserve on Central City Parkway between Wayne and Warren Roads. This program is recommended for ages 7 to adult. Pre-registration is required by calling (734) 261-1990.
Botany Hike – Deciduous Tree Collections
Saturday, August 22 from 1:00-4:00 p.m.
Bennett Arboretum was developed in the 1930’s as part of the Middle Rouge Parkway. Many rare trees from around the world were planted here, as well as maple, oak and beech collections. Hike the hilly terrain to see what trees remain today and explore new plantings. This program takes place at Bennett Arboretum in Northville. The cost is $2 per adult and pre-registration is required by calling (734) 261-1990.
French Fur Trading History Program
Saturday, August 29 from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m.
The French arrived in the Great Lakes as early as the 1500s. Their influence in the region is still evident today. Learn why Michigan was significant in the fur trade at this presentation at the Nankin Mills Interpretive Center in Westland. This program is recommended for adults. The cost is $2 per adult and pre-registration is required by calling (734) 261-1990.
