Wayne County and local health agencies launch community health care pilot program

The Wayne County Department of Health, Veterans and Community Wellness (HVCW) will launch a pilot program in Hamtramck on Wednesday, March 16 called Wellness@thecommunity to deliver clinical, wellness and healthcare programs, along with youth and veterans services to Wayne County residents.

Wayne County Executive Warren C. Evans said in his State of the County Address that one of his primary goals for 2016 is to increase access to health care for the citizens of Wayne County. The

Wellness@thecommunity pilot program helps to fulfill that goal by removing barriers to service with satellite locations where residents can receive a multiple services simultaneously. The services to be offered include:

* Health Education and Wellness promotion

* WIC enrollment and visits

* Immunizations

* Health care enrollment

* Juvenile prevention services

* Veteran Services

* Heads Start enrollment

* Healthcare programs

 

The Wellness@thecommunity satellite locations will be set-up on alternating Wednesdays in Ecorse and Hamtramck. The March 16 kick-off will be from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Hamtramck Health Center located at 9201 Joseph Campau in Hamtramck. The complete schedule is as follows:

“The Department of Health, Veterans and Community Wellness wants every Wayne County community to be the healthiest it can be. Expanding and increasing access to the services the department provides through Wellness@thecommunity will produce better neighborhood wellness outcomes in the long term,” said Dr. Mouhanad Hammami, Director of the Department of Health, Veterans and Community Wellness.

HVCW will be seeking additional Wellness@thecommunity locations throughout Wayne County so look for more to come.
