Walgreens Hosts Drug Take-Back Day Events Throughout Michigan to Help Community Safely Discard of Unused, Unwanted Medications
DEERFIELD, Ill., April 23, 2013 – To help prevent the misuse or abuse of unused and unwanted medications, Walgreens (NYSE, Nasdaq: WAG) will host Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Prescription Drug Take-Back Day events at 17 stores in Michigan. Community residents can participate in this service for free.
The events will be held from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 27, at Walgreens locations and local police stations, including:
- 33 S. Pere Marquette Highway in Ludington, Mich. This store will have altered hours – noon until 3 p.m.
- 1991 E. Apple Avenue in Muskegon, Mich.
- 1550 36th Street SW in Wyoming, Mich.
- 100 Cabelas Boulevard in Dundee, Mich.
- 1427 Cleophus in Lincoln Park, Mich.
- 120 Inkster Road in Inkster, Mich.
- 484 S. Telegraph Road in Monroe, Mich.
- 3270 W. Silver Lake Road in Fenton, Mich.
- 901 S. State Road in Davison, Mich.
- At the Elk Lodge at 25950 in Schoenherr Road in Warren, Mich.
- 2321 E. Grand River Avenue in Howell, Mich.
- 6331 E. Jefferson Avenue in Detroit, Mich.
- 14048 Woodward Avenue in Highland Park, Mich.
- 3435 E. Saginaw Street in Lansing, Mich.
- 10276 Belleville Road in Belleville, Mich.
- Redford Police Department at 25833 Elsinore in Redford, Mich.
- 812 E. Saginaw Highway. in Grand Ledge, Mich.
Consumers are encouraged to safely and legally dispose of any unwanted or expired medications. Law enforcement will also be present to accept any controlled substance medications dropped off for disposal.
“One of the most common questions our pharmacists receive surrounds how to safely dispose of unused or expired medications,” said Walgreens district manager of central Michigan Jason McGee. “This is an easy way to help keep unused or unwanted medications out of the hands of those who could be accidentally harmed.”
Sites will accept tablets, capsules, and all other solid dosage forms of unwanted medication. Those disposing of medications may black out personal identification on prescription bottles or empty bottles into bins provided at the event.
