A University of Michigan running back turned financial gain into a blessing for others in the community just in time for Thanksgiving.
Blake Corum, who has helped his teammates have a victorious season, was in the giving spirit when he purchased 100 turkeys several weeks ago, which he helped distribute in the Ypsilanti area, The Detroit News reported.
The money he earned through the college sport from his name, image and likeness (NIL) — (which began in July) lets college athletes earn coins off their brands — allowed him to purchase the turkeys for families to have on Thanksgiving, according to the article.
Corum held a “Giving Back 2 Give Thanks” event recently, with the help of some, doubling the number of turkeys distributed and included milk, non-perishables, and other items to complete a Thanksgiving feast.
“I’ve always given back, whether it’s a football camp or small things,” Corum said in the article. “I’ve always invested in giving back to my community and trying to get the next generation to live out their dreams. Thanksgiving was coming along, NIL is going really good, and I told my Dad (James), ‘I’m going to buy 100 turkeys.’”
