The Salvation Army of Metro Detroit’s Conner Creek Corps Community Center is bringing festive fun and community support to local families with its upcoming Trunk or Treat event. Designed to provide a safe and engaging Halloween experience for children in need, the event will take place on Thursday, October 31, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Detroit Police Department’s 5th Precinct, located at 3500 Conner St.
Families attending can look forward to a variety of decorated car trunks filled with candy, games, and activities in a secure, family-friendly environment. The event also emphasizes community outreach, uniting local volunteers, police officers, and residents to spread joy while ensuring children can celebrate Halloween safely.
The Salvation Army is joining forces with Detroit’s renowned Hip-Hop & R&B Station, 97.9 WJLB, to facilitate the distribution of brand new winter coats for children, ranging from infant sizes all the way up to adult sizes. This collaborative effort has been ongoing since 1982, with both organizations dedicated to supporting children in need throughout metro Detroit by providing not only coats but also other essential winter accessories.
This year’s event aims to ensure every child can stay warm and comfortable during the cold months ahead, reinforcing their commitment to community support and care.
Major Charlotte Hall, general secretary and metro Detroit area commander for The Salvation Army Great Lakes Division highlighted that the Trunk or Treat event will offer a fun and safe trick-or-treating experience for kids while also equipping them with the essential gear to stay warm this winter.
“Thanks to 97.9 WJLB and our community partners, The Salvation Army can offer children warmth and hope, letting them focus on what truly matters this season,” Hall said.
In addition to the distribution of coats, all attendees will receive complimentary candy and hot dogs. The delicious snacks will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, so be sure to arrive early to enjoy them.
As a special gesture of gratitude, Buddy’s Pizza has generously donated gift cards to recognize the hard work of the event volunteers and support local families. Each gift card will be limited to one per person and available only while supplies last.
