Top movies for Valentine’s Day that even men will enjoy

Eddie Murphy and Sheri Headley created an all-time favorite comedy and love story that has lasted for 25 years.
Eddie Murphy and Sheri Headley created cinematic magic in “Coming to America.”

With most of the country resembling the Arctic Circle in mid-February, most couples would probably rather spend their Valentine’s Day indoors cuddled up in front of a good old romantic movie. Or the pair could brave the cold and dine at a white linen restaurant before retiring back to the living room.
Whatever the case, we have a list of movies that could help you and your significant other create the proper mood for a romantic evening.
Take a look at some of the best movies fans consider the most romantic films of the modern era.

Titanic: Once the highest-grossing movie of all time, James Cameron’s epic masterpiece about a doomed ocean liner turned up-and-coming actors Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet into bankable household names.

Ghost: The movie that turned Demi Moore from a “Brat Pack” phenom into a legitimate box-office superstar and was the late Patrick Swayze’s last great starring role that centered on love after death.

Coming to America: This was Eddie Murphy at his artistic and box office peak as he and co-star Shari Headley perfectly married comedy and romance to create an all-time urban favorite film.

Hitch: Will Smith was in the middle of one of the greatest box office movie runs in Hollywood history when he starred as a matchmaker who has his own problems keeping his own relationship intact with co-star Eva Mandes.

Love Jones: The movie transformed Lorenz Tate’s image from a ruthless gang-banger in the cult classic Menace II Society into a heartthrob who proved that he and love interest Nia Long had graduated from being part of cast ensembles into serious actors who could carry a film.

Love & Basketball: Gina Prince-Bythewood had already created movie gold with Eve’s Bayou, but this film starring Omar Epps and Sanaa Lathan proved that black romance, sans comedy, could be both engrossing and bankable.

Brown Sugar: Sanaa Lathan and Taye Diggs were starting to become household names who played childhood friends-turned-music label owners who were always more than friends but never explored their feelings until they were both in serious relationships.

The Best Man: The movie allowed Morris Chestnut to graduate from the Rickey role on Boyz-N-the-Hood into another sex symbol. Here he plays a notorious cheater who got one-upped by his best friend and guy who was supposed to be his best man at his upcoming wedding (Taye Diggs).

Think Like a Man: The movie shocked the Hollywood establishment by nearly grossing $100 million and reminding America that the topic of black love, that was explored often in the 1990s (via Love Jones, Best Man, The Wood, Set it Off and Love & Basketball) was not extinct.
