The movie The Revenant is set in the year 1823 in Montana and South Dakota. Under the command of Captain Andrew Henry (Domhnall Gleeson) a group of frontiersman set out in search for pelts. While traveling through the wilderness, the group was attacked by a Native American tribe, The Arikara. Only a few of the frontiersman escape from the attack and continued on their path. In the midst of traveling, a member of the group Hugh Glass (Leonardo DiCaprio) was mauled by a bear. Knowing that it would slow them down to travel with the injured huntsman, Glass was left for dead by his fellow huntsmen. Feeling betrayed, Glass put his survival skills to work and set out for revenge.
Although the movie was rather slow and long, Dicaprio was exceptional as expected. His character showed how powerful the mind can be. I enjoyed certain parts of the movie, overall I give the movie 3.5 stars.
The Revenant was partially based on Michael Punke’s The Revenant: A Novel of Revenge. It was directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu and written by Mark L. Smith. The movie is rated R, running time 153 minutes.
