The bad and worst from BET Awards 2015

LOS ANGELES — There were a plethora of amazing highlights from the extraordinary 2015 BET Awards at L.A. Live from downtown: the poignant Janet Jackson and Smokey Robinson tributes; Tom Joyner being bestowed a well-deserved and overdue Humanitarian Award; the Bad Boy 20-year reunion that connected Diddy/Puff Daddy with Mase and Lil Kim; Chris Brown wilin’ out onstage and winning two of the biggest awards; to Nicki Minaj bringing her mother onstage after one of her wins; to The Weeknd collaborating with Alicia Keys; to Kendrick Lamar opening the show with the American flag but shooting off the numerous ills that plague the country; to Nicki Minaj performing with her lover and collaborator Meek Mill.
But there were plenty of “ratchet” moments that pockmarked the popular proceedings and we felt it was our duty to point that out for your pleasure.
1. Karrueche Tran (above): She was at the BET Awards. No, she really was. Really. But with a bevy of the most recognized stars in urban and pop music, she was not able to steal much attention or media time for herself. And when she did, it was not good. We hope her decorator, er, fashion designer has been fired.

Joe Jackson’s hat: We all love Janet and her overdue comeback, and we continue to salute the late, legendary Michael Jackson, who died six years ago just before the BET Awards 2009, but the patriarch of the First Family of Music, Joe Jackson, needs to change out that hat.

Annoying self promotion: It was a little on the uncouth side for practically every announcer and presenter to promote their upcoming albums, movies and singles when they were supposed to be introducing artists and setting up performances and giving away awards. Please limit this annoying thing next year.

Keyshia Cole: Announcing her album is coming out independently once, and then making a face as if we’d better buy it, she then announced the winner of the Centric Award (which was Weeknd), but then had to announce it again while walking off the stage.

Anthony Anderson and Tracee Ellis Ross bits: Most of their “comedic” bit were painfully unfunny

Diddy tried to play it off, which he did quite well, but he kissed the stage which made for a funny moment.
