Mayor Mike Duggan announced the appointment of Tanya Stoudemire as Chief Deputy Chief Financial Officer. Stoudemire will replace Katherine (Katie) Hammer, who has been appointed in a new role, as Vice President for Finance for the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Prior to this appointment, Stoudemire served as the City’s Deputy Chief Financial Officer/Budget Director since May 2015. She began her career with the City of Detroit over 30 years ago, spending half that time in the City of Detroit’s Budget Department where she was a Budget Manager for 10 years. She then joined the Finance Department where she served as an advisor to the Finance Director on major budgetary and financial decisions.
During her career with the City, she also served as a trustee on the Police and Fire Retirement System Board as well the head of the Income Tax Division, where she instituted initiatives which resulted in an increase in current and delinquent income tax revenues.
“Tanya has done a tremendous job as Budget Director,” Mayor Duggan said. “She has been instrumental in our city ending each year not only with a balanced budget, but with surpluses we have been able to invest in our retiree protection fund and capital improvements. She also has been essential to our efforts to retool our budget during the COVID crisis, allowing us to keep our budget balanced without major disruptions in city services. Through her leadership I look forward to her serving at a greater capacity in managing the city’s finances.”
Stoudemire is a Detroit native and a graduate of Renaissance High School. She earned her Juris Doctorate and Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Wayne State University. Her years of solid experience, expertise, and education make her an asset in her role in sustaining Detroit’s financial solvency.
Stoudemire will begin her new role on Friday, February 5th
