Wayne County Canvassers forwarded the decision to certify the city of Detroit mayoral primary election to the state. Now according to Fox 2 news the state will have to recount each ballot.
WJBK – Michigan Elections Director Chris Thomas says Wednesday that state canvassers may meet next week in Detroit and that it would take a day or so to count the ballots.
County canvassers refused to certify the election because tallies for write-in ballots from 179 precincts were done numerically and not with hash marks. Thomas says county canvassers should have tabulated those ballots on their own.
