This Saturday, Metro Detroit families are invited to shake off the winter chill and celebrate the joys of spring at “Hop Along the Greenway,” a fun-filled community festival blooming with cheer, connection, and creativity. Hosted by the Joe Louis Greenway Partnership, the free event will take place from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM at 7241 McDonald, in Detroit, and will be an afternoon packed with fun for all ages.
This family-friendly celebration transforms one of Detroit’s most cherished green spaces into a wonderland of games, crafts, music, springtime treats, and surprise delights. Kids can enjoy face painting, meet a live magician, and join in an egg hunt adventure, while adults can groove their way through the Boots on the Ground Hustle class, a lively group dance session that invites everyone to get moving and connect.
Leona Medley, Executive Director of the Joe Louis Greenway Partnership. highlighted wanting families to experience the magic of spring and the beauty of the Greenway together.
“This path is more than pavement — it’s a gathering place, a connector of neighborhoods, and a celebration of life in Detroit,” Medley said.
Festive snacks and light bites will be available, and fans will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis though guests are encouraged to bring their own, along with strollers, picnic blankets, and their springtime spirit.
The event emphasizes the Greenway’s mission to promote wellness, equity, and community through year-round engagement. Since breaking ground in 2021, the Joe Louis Greenway has become a symbol of transformation for Detroit, linking neighborhoods and families through walkable, bikeable, and programmable green spaces.
Crystal Perkins, Director of the City’s General Services Department, says events like this are exactly why the City of Detroit invested in the Greenway.
“It’s about more than just a trail — it’s about building a space where families can laugh, move, and make memories together,” Perkins said.
Hop Along the Greenway is free and open to all. From egg hunts to energetic dancing and everything in between, it’s a can’t-miss celebration of community, nature, and joy.
