Southfield Council President Sylvia Jordan announces candidacy for mayor

Southfield City Council President Sylvia Jordan announced her candidacy for mayor of Southfield on the steps of the Southfield City Hall. Flanked by supporters, Jordan laid out her vision for moving the city forward.
“I am running for mayor, so that I can help move Southfield Forward as we take on the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead,” said Jordan. “We stand today as a city with great people, welcoming businesses and eminent potential and I am ready to step up to mantle of leadership as this city’s next mayor.”
As part of the announcement, Council President Jordan outlined her plan for moving Southfield Forward. The plan includes: strengthening communities, enhancing the city’s international business address while supporting small businesses and entrepreneurs, creating a vibrant, welcoming city and keeping the city fiscally strong and connected.
“My candidacy is all about the people of Southfield,” said Jordan. “I will make growing, improving and building this city a top priority. This is my community and home to three generations of my family. It is my mission to see Southfield thrive.”
Council President Jordan has served on the Southfield City Council for 16 years and has been re-elected by her peers on the council as president six times. Recently, she was honored by the Michigan Chronicle as a 2015 Woman of Excellence for her service to the community.
She was previously appointed to the National League of Cities as a nationwide panelist and received the National League of Cities- Silver Leadership Award. In addition, she received the Michigan Municipal League Award for her outstanding leadership skills.
Council President Jordan hosted an official campaign kick-off event on April 16, 2015 at Plum Hollow Country Club in Southfield.
