Rock & Soul powerhouse, and former Detroiter, Kelly Campos will bring her electrifyingly energetic performance to Small’s Bar in Hamtramck (10339 Conant) on Saturday, November 22nd. Doors open at 8pm.
Kelly Campos, also known simply as Jelly, was a main stage performer at Second City Detroit and a founding member of Detroit’s critically acclaimed Mosaic Youth Theatre. Kelly released three studio albums with her funk/rock band, Jelly’s Pierced Tattoo, was nominated for a Detroit Music Award for Outstanding Vocalist, and performed at Dally in the Alley, Arts Beats and Eats, and many other notable Detroit area venues.
It has been four years since Kelly, now a Chicagoland resident, has returned to Michigan for a concert and this time she returns with her full band to perform tracks from their latest CD, Coolest Chick, which was released in April of this year. It is her first as a solo performer, and features eight original tracks including the heavy hitting “Brotha, No” and the upbeat “Funky Rhythm”. The CD is a tight blend of Kelly’s soulful voice mixed with the rock/funk style of her band mates. Kelly states, “In my heart I have never left Detroit. This is where I was born and raised and where the majority of my friends and family live. Detroit is gritty and real, roots and rock, soul and fire… and that is everything I sing with. Plus, it’s important to bring my band here so that they can see just how hard Detroit rocks!”
Joining her for this one night only performance will be Raven Love, a folk rock musician melding Feist and Fiona Apple with the dreamy soul of Sade; and Moon Mafia, an eclectic rock band with influences that range from Paul Simon to A Tribe Called Quest.
The CD will be available for purchase at the venue, and at Dearborn Music. A digital download can be purchased through Amazon or iTunes.
Kelly is available for interviews and media appearances upon request. Members of the press wishing to review the performance and/or CD are invited to request guest list status.
