Practice Safe Digging This Summer

Did you know 811 Day (August 11) was earlier this month? This day serves as a reminder to always contact MISS DIG three business days before you dig.

When you contact MISS DIG about your digging project, they call all companies with underground utilities near you to come flag where they are buried. Digging without knowing the location of underground utilities can result in serious injuries, service disruptions and costly repairs when natural gas, electric, communications, water or sewer lines are damaged.

This means you should call 811 or visit missdig811.org at least three days before you:

  • Install a fence.
  • Plant trees.
  • Build a deck.
  • Lay a patio.
  • Install a pool.
  • Or do any other digging.

It’s fast, it’s free and it’s the law. Always:

  • Wait to dig until flags have been placed to mark your utility lines.
  • Leave flags in place until your digging work is complete.
