Looks like illegal doping isn’t just happening in the pro cycling world; it’s present on the track and field, too. The fastest man in the world this year, Olympic sprinter Tyson Gay recently admitted that he tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs, and as a result, decided to pull himself out of the world championships next month in Moscow.
“I don’t have a sabotage story,” Gay said in an interview with The Associated Press. “I don’t have any lies. I don’t have anything to say to make this seem like it was a mistake or it was on Usada’s hands, someone playing games.”
When asked who abused his trust, he said, “I can’t really say it. Sometimes a human being naturally, generally trusts somebody. That’s what people do.”
He added, “I don’t have any of those stories. I basically put my trust in someone and I was let down.”
According to Sports Illustrated, the U.S Anti-Doping Agency said they appreciate Gay’s “approach to handling this situation and his choice to voluntarily remove himself from competition while the full facts surrounding his test are evaluated.”
The 100-meter record holder is the third high-profile track star to be involved in a doping scandal this month.
