NFL Former Players 6th Annual Turkey Drive Next Tuesday

On Tuesday, November 23, the NFL Former Players Association, in collaboration with Trion Solutions (www.relyontrion.com) and The Orchards (previously Advantage Health Centers), will host its 6th annual turkey giveaway. NFL Legends will distribute more than 500 turkeys and side dishes to the community beginning at 9 a.m. at Plymouth United Church of Christ, 600 E. Warren Avenue on

Detroit’s Eastside.

APEX Leadership, Detroit Has Heart, and Eagle Excavation will be among the community partners and volunteers lining the parking lot to distribute pre-packed bags filled with holiday fixings. In honor of the forthcoming Thanksgiving holiday, each bag will contain dressing, cornbread, cranberry sauce, and a turkey.

Detroit’s NFL Former Players President Tim Walton stated, “As the global pandemic enters its second year, it is vital that people with the means and resources give back. As a child, I grew up in a single-parent home, witnessing my father struggle to make ends meet while making it his duty to provide for my siblings and me.

Those services and organizations were critical in providing a hot supper to my brother, sister, and me every night. I take the same joy in mobilizing our community to pay it forward in the same way that so many others did for me.”

Per a recent article on CNBC “In September, the consumer price index — a basket of goods — rose 5.4% from a year ago, nearly hitting a 30-year high, according to data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor statistics. And under those headline numbers, food costs rose 4.6%, with the largest gains driven by price increases of meat, poultry, fish, and eggs. The USDA is also projecting that food-at-home costs will be up 2.5% to 3.5% for the entire 2021 year.”

“It is such a thrill to be helping 500 families enjoy the Thanksgiving holiday,” said Bonner Upshaw III, CEO and Co-Founder of Michigan-based Trion Solutions, the largest certified minority-owned Professional Employer Organization (PEO) in the United States. Trion President and Co-Founder David L. Stone added, “The NFL Former Players Association does vital and selfless community work. Trion Solutions is ecstatic and humbled to be a part of such a great effort.”

Detroit Lions Legends and event mastermind Tim Walton will join forces to feed families and connect the community to companies and organizations to help during the pandemic and the impending holiday season.

This event is free and accessible to the public, while supplies last. Strict CDC guidelines will be followed, masks are strongly encouraged.
