On June 29, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and Detroit Pistons will present Big Sean & Friends, a concert that fuses classical power with a hip-hop pulse, headlined by multi-platinum rapper and hometown hero Big Sean. Set against the majestic backdrop of Orchestra Hall, the night will spotlight an all-star lineup including Skilla Baby, Tee Grizzley, Illa J, Nasaan, and Queen Naija, culminating in a stirring orchestral tribute to the late, great J Dilla, Detroit’s most influential beatmaker.
In a genre-blending showcase that defies the traditional concert mold, Big Sean will perform fan-favorite hits alongside the DSO in a bold orchestral reimagining of his career-defining catalog. The show will also feature electrifying guest sets by rising and established Detroit stars, including Skilla Baby, Tee Grizzley, Illa J, Nasaan, and Queen Naija.
And in a poignant highlight of the evening, the DSO will pay tribute to the late, great J Dilla, the visionary producer whose beats still echo through hip-hop’s core. Expect a powerful orchestral arrangement inspired by Dilla’s most iconic work, transforming his signature sound into something entirely new.
Big Sean, who also serves as the Detroit Pistons’ Creative Director of Innovation, has long used his platform to uplift his hometown. From designing team merch to leading community initiatives, this collaboration with the DSO is the latest in a series of creative, culture-forward projects. Set in the heart of Midtown at one of the world’s most acoustically perfect concert halls, Big Sean & Friends will more than a concert, it’s a , celebration of creativity, collaboration, and the unmatched musical talent born in the 313.
Fans will be able to snag the exclusive Big Sean bobblehead, originally released for Big Sean Night, for an extra $20. Proceeds from the concert will support the Detroit Pistons Foundation, the Boys & Girls Club of Southeastern Michigan, and the Sean Anderson Foundation.
