Many City of Detroit offices will be closed beginning December 23, 2013 in observance of Christmas and New Year’s holidays and reopen on Monday, Jan. 6, 2014. Normal police, fire, bus, lighting, airport and water/sewerage services will be provided. These offices will be open:

- The Detroit Department of Transportation (DDOT) will operate bus service on Christmas and New Year’s Day as a Sunday schedule. Regular weekday bus service will be provided on Dec. 24 and Dec. 31
- The Department of Public Works (DPW) will collect refuse and recycling as scheduled on Tuesday, Dec. 24 and Dec. 31. However, DPW will NOT collect refuse and recycling on Wednesday, Dec. 25 and January 1. During both weeks, DPW crews will collect refuse and recycling one day later. Wednesday’s collection will be picked up on Thursday, and Thursday’s collection will take place on Friday and so forth.
- The Detroit People Mover will not operate on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Operating hours on New Year’s Eve are 9 a.m. – 3 a.m. and on New Year’s Day from 2 p.m. – 1 a.m. Normal service will resume on Thursday, January 2.
