Michelle Obama Set to Read to Kids via Livestream

Former First Lady, Michelle Obama, is launching “Read Together, Be Together” in partnership with Penguin Young Readers, Random House Children’s Books and PBS Kids. The initiative features “Mondays with Michelle Obama,” where every Monday Obama will read a children’s book via PBS Kids’ Facebook and YouTube channel.

“As a little kid, I loved to read aloud. And when I became a parent, I found such joy in sharing the magic of storytelling with my own children—and then later, as first lady, with kids everywhere,” said Obama.

“At this time when so many families are under so much stress, I’m excited to give kids a chance to practice their reading and hear some wonderful stories (and to give parents and caretakers a much-needed break).”

The weekly live readings began Monday and will continue every Monday at noon for four weeks through May 11.

The reading list is comprised of:

  • The Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson
  • There’s a Dragon in Your Book by Tom Fletcher
  • Miss Maple’s Seeds by Eliza Wheeler
  • The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle
