Helping our city rise matters most to MGM Grand Detroit President/COO David Tsai

Helping our city rise matters most to MGM Grand Detroit President/Chief Operating Officer David Tsai

Q: Where does MGM Grand Detroit stand when it comes to safety?

David Tsai:  “With the health and safety protocols we have in place, our guests and team members remain at lower risk than other businesses currently operating.  And our health and safety protocols are aided by the design of the MGM Grand Detroit property, which significantly enhances air circulation while providing the much needed spaciousness to promote social distancing.  And finally, we have team members that are very good at what they do when it comes to executing all of the cleaning and sanitation protocols.  You have to take safety seriously; it’s not about maximizing profits, it’s about operating in a safe and healthy way—the MGM Grand Detroit way!

Q: What can guests expect from MGM Grand Detroit today and going forward?

David Tsai: “We continue to be one the most robust entertainment venues around and gaming is just a small part of our total offerings.  Now that we have sports betting, we offer a fun environment to watch sports—Lions games, Red Wings games and more.  Live entertainment is back at AXIS Lounge and that is something that has not come back at a lot of places. We have live music at AXIS, as well as DJs on Thursdays through Sundays.  We also have a fantastic new modern steakhouse (D.Prime Steakhouse), which has become one of the most popular steakhouses in town. And we look forward to bringing back concerts on our property in 2022.”

Q: How would you define MGM Grand Detroit’s commitment to the community at this moment in time?

David Tsai: We view ourselves as an integral part of the Detroit community and more than half of our team members are Detroit residents. Our financial support for the Detroit community has not been reduced in any way. That includes our charitable giving, and I believe we are the largest taxpayer in the city of Detroit, which means we also help fund the city itself and the government.  The only thing we have done less of—due to the pandemic—is in-person volunteering and we look forward to getting back to that full-scale as soon as we safely can. That’s one of the reasons why we required our salaried managers to be vaccinated, not just to protect our guests, but to also allow us to resume volunteering in our community.”
