On Friday, Michael Irvin, former NFL star and Hall of Famer, filed a countersuit in Dallas County, Texas, against the woman who filed a civil lawsuit against him for assault and rape, according to the Miami Herald.
He is countersuing the woman, who is referred to as Jane Doe in her lawsuit in order to maintain anonymity, for $100 million.
According to her complaint filed in Broward Circuit Court on Thursday, Irvin and an unidentified man raped and forced her to perform oral sex on them at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood in 2007. She accused Irvin of getting her drunk and luring her into his hotel room, the Miami Herald reported. Her claim also states that Derrick Irvin, Michael’s brother, took the woman from the room in attempt to cover up any sexual misconduct that allegedly took place.
According to the Seminole police, the woman made a police report on July 20, two weeks after the incident allegedly occurred. There is no surveillance video or forensic evidence but she passed a polygraph test.
Though no criminal charges have been filed at this time, the Miami Herald reported that the Broward State Attorney’s Office hopes to conclude their investigation sometime this week.
In response to the allegations, Larry Friedman, Irvin’s lawyer, stated that the charges were “totally untrue,” adding that “beyond, perhaps, meeting her, there was nothing.
The Miami Herald also reported that her lawyer, David Lister, and Irvin’s counsel were in negotiations to reach a monetary settlement. Doe initially asked for $1 million and later $800,000. Irvin said no to both offers. Friedman called the talks an attempt to extort money from his client.
After negotiations ceased, Doe’s case was filed in court three days before the Super Bowl.
