The Michigan Film Office announced today the feature film Dial a Prayer has been approved for a film incentive from the state. The project, set in suburban Michigan, will film throughout metro Detroit later this summer.
Dial a Prayer is being produced by Detroit native Jason Potash alongside Paul Finkel. The duo also produced Beside Still Waters – a project that filmed in northern Michigan and metro Detroit in 2012. Maggie Kiley is directing the film.
“This project features Michigan filmmakers, who are also repeat customers, and is set here in Michigan – all factors that make it a great fit for our incentive program,” said Margaret O’Riley, Director of the Michigan Film Office. “Most importantly, the vast majority of the crew being hired will be workers right here in Michigan.”
Dial a Prayer was awarded an incentive of $243,002 on $850,160 of projected in-state expenditures. The project is expected to hire 71 Michigan workers with a full time equivalent of 4 jobs.
The film tells the story of Cora McCarthy, who despite having lost all faith, finds herself manning the call lines to Heaven. Along the way, Cora makes an unexpected love connection of her own.
In Fiscal Year 2013, 23 projects have been awarded a total of $33,592,489 on $129,349,782 of approved production expenditures for the year. These projects are expected to create 1,549 Michigan hires with a full time equivalent of 610 jobs.
The Michigan Film Office was created in 1979 to assist and attract incoming production companies and promote the growth of Michigan’s own film industry.
