Former Detroit Public School League (PSL) basketball standout Chris Douglas-Roberts, affectionately known as CDR, created a scholarship fund in Memphis where he played collegiately. The CDR Supreme Dream Scholarship Fund will provide paid tuition for students for four years to the University of Memphis.
The scholarship was created with the purpose of assisting local students in the Memphis area with funding to attend the university. The founders of the fund, Douglas-Roberts and his wife Raven Bey, are both alumni of the University of Memphis, and aim to provide eligible Memphis and surrounding area students with the same educational opportunities they had.
The Supreme Dream Scholarship Fund intends to send a student to the University of Memphis beginning in the 2019-2020 fall semester, with money raised through charitable donations, sponsorships, and community resources. To apply, applicants must fill out an application form.
Applicants must have a home address in the state of Tennessee and be 16-25-years-old, either currently in high school, a high school graduate. or attending Memphis as an undergraduate. A winner will be chosen at the end of the summer. The deadline to apply is June 14, 2019.
Douglas-Roberts was born in Detroit and played at Cass Technical High School as a sophomore and junior. He then transferred to Northwestern High School to finish his high school career, ranked as a four-star recruit by Rivals.com in 2005. He made All-City honorable mention in 2003 and Second-team All-City in 2004 by the Detroit Free Press. Despite having to sit out most of his senior year in high school due to transfer rules, Douglas-Roberts was still considered a top-100 player in the nation.
The 6-7 wing committed to Memphis during the summer of 2004 and signed his letter of intent in 2005. He played three seasons for the Tigers and head coach John Calipari, finishing his college career with 1,545 points, All-American status, and lead Memphis to the 2008 National Championship game with Derrick Rose, losing to Kansas.
Douglas-Roberts was taken 40th overall in the 2008 NBA Draft by the New Jersey Nets. He played a total of six seasons in the NBA, last playing with the Los Angeles Clippers in 2015.
