In an interview with GQ magazine, Chappelle touches on the controversy surrounding Sterling while mentioning how the former NBA team owner didn’t deserve to lose ownership of the Los Angeles Clippers.
“Ultimately, I don’t think he should have lost his team,” Chappelle shared. “I don’t like the idea that someone could record a secret conversation and that a person could lose their assets from that, even though I think what he said was awful.”
Chappelle’s defense of Sterling follows comments made by Bill Maher, who generated negative feedback for defending Sterling’s right to free speech in May.
