The new school year means it’s time to enroll in DAPCEP’s fall program session for students interested in exploring the fields of science, technology, engineering, mathematics and medicine (STEMM). Enrollment for the upcoming fall session started Sept. 16 and runs through Sept. 18.

DAPCEP offers an exciting variety of courses to choose from, which include such subjects as Forensic Crime Stoppers, Fuel Cell Challenge, SimCity, Chemistry, Discovery of Life, and Computer Aided Design (CAD)/ Website design.

New for the fall enrollment period is a $25 Application Fee.

“There have been changes in regional philanthropy, a shift in economic conditions and a growing need for increased organizational self-reliance,” says Jason Lee, DAPCEP executive director.

“After evaluating several options, we decided it would be best to implement an individual application fee for our programs. We will continue to seek funding from organizations and individuals interested in supporting the development or our students.”

The new application fee is $25 per child or $100 for families with more than four children to enroll. DAPCEP also offers financial assistance to family who meet certain criteria.

Since 1976, DAPCEP has provided state-of-the-art science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, also known as STEM programming, to underrepresented metropolitan Detroit youth ages 5 to 18. The organization recently added medicine to its course offerings. Along with its corporate and eight Michigan university partners, DAPCEP serves more than 4,000 students annually.

The registration process begins with completing an application online at the DAPCEP website, www.dapcep.org. The application should be printed out, and dropped off at the DAPCEP office during the enrollment period, Sept. 16-18. Along with the application, parents must bring the student’s school transcript or most recent report card. Full instructions for the application process are on the website.

Office hours are Sept. 18 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. The DAPCEP office is located at 100 Farnsworth, Suite 249, in Detroit’s Midtown area.
