Central City Health (CCH), a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing accessible and high-quality healthcare, has announced the grand opening of its newest facility, the 3rd Street Health Center, located at 1240 3rd Street in downtown Detroit. The expansion marks a significant step in the organization’s mission to serve Detroit and Wayne County residents, offering a comprehensive range of medical and behavioral health services to individuals, regardless of their insurance status or ability to pay.

CCH, a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) and Level III Patient-Centered Medical Home, has been a trusted provider of healthcare services in Detroit for decades. The opening of the new facility reflects the organization’s commitment to meeting the growing healthcare needs of the community.

CCH President and CEO Dr. Kimberly Farrow-Felton emphasized that Central City Health has been a trusted healthcare provider in Detroit for decades, evolving to meet the community’s needs.

“The opening of our 3rd Street Health Center represents not just growth but a deeper commitment to ensuring equitable healthcare access for all,” Farrow-Felton said.

“By expanding our primary care and behavioral health services, we are strengthening the foundation of community wellness and building a healthier future for Detroiters.”

The 3rd Street Health Center spans 5,400 square feet and offers a wide range of essential health services in a single, accessible location. Patients seeking primary care services will have access to adult medical exams, women’s health services, vaccinations, chronic disease management, laboratory testing, and prescription management. The facility is designed to support patients through every stage of their healthcare journey, ensuring continuity of care and personalized treatment plans.

Recognizing the growing demand for mental health services, the new health center also provides comprehensive behavioral health support. Services include therapy, psychiatric evaluations, case management, group therapy, intake services, and peer support. The center features 10 dedicated behavioral health rooms and three primary care rooms, with additional flexible spaces designed for group therapy sessions.

In conjunction with the new health center, CCH has also established new administrative offices at 613 Abbott Street, located adjacent to the 3rd Street Health Center. This expansion enhances the organization’s ability to coordinate and deliver services effectively.

The new office space covers more than 19,000 square feet across two floors and includes several important departments, such as leadership, quality control, finance, billing, IT, human resources, and the call center. It also features the housing department, which offers essential support to people looking for stable homes, helping to improve health and well-being in the community.

The opening of the 3rd Street Health Center comes at a crucial time as Detroit continues to face disparities in healthcare access and health outcomes. By offering both primary care and behavioral health services under one roof, CCH aims to remove barriers to healthcare and provide comprehensive, integrated treatment options for residents.

As a Federally Qualified Health Center, CCH provides services on a sliding fee scale, ensuring that patients receive the care they need regardless of financial circumstances. This approach aligns with the organization’s mission to eliminate health inequities and improve the overall well-being of the community.

With a strong focus on patient-centered care, CCH continues to build a healthier future for Detroit residents. The new 3rd Street Health Center is a testament to the organization’s dedication to expanding healthcare access and enhancing the quality of life for individuals and families throughout the region.

“We are excited to welcome both new and existing patients to our 3rd Street Health Center and look forward to growing our talented team of healthcare professionals,” Farrow-Felton said.

“With the addition of our new administrative offices, we are further strengthening our ability to serve our staff and support the continued delivery of exceptional care.”

The health center is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and walk-in and same-day appointments are available. Patients can learn more or schedule an appointment by visiting www.centralcityhealth.com or calling 313-831-3160.
