PowerBreakfast Meeting
JAN. 20—The African American Chamber of Commerce of Western Pa. will host it first PowerBreakfast meeting of the year with guest speaker County Executive Rich Fitzgerald, 7:30-9 a.m. at the Rivers Club in One Oxford Center, Downtown. Build your Business Workshop
JAN. 21—The Chatham Women’s Business Center presents a Build Your Business Workshop,9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Mellon Building on the Chatham University Shadyside Campus The workshop is designed for women interested in starting or expanding their business. Business experts and seasoned entrepreneurs will discuss the following topics: business planning, marketing and sales, financing, legal issues and business lessons learned. Growth Workshop
JAN. 25—In conjunction with the Hill Community Development Corporation, the Chatham Women’s Business Center presents Is You Business Bankable? From 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Braun Hall, Woodland Rd., on its Shadyside campus. Learn what you need to prepare, including credit scores and repair, personal finances, financial spreadsheets and business plans, purpose of the funds—facilitated by Judith Herron, CPA, of Markowitz, Dugan & Associates. Also learn about the loan application process: what to expect, review process, requirements, red flags, and SBA loan programs—facilitated  by Aaron Aldrich of Bridgeway Capital.

Training Event
JAN. 26—The Duquesne University Small Business Development Center presents Export Basics, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Rockwell Hall Room 108, 600 Forbes Ave., Uptown. This course is designed for manufacturers and technology companies seeking to initiate export programs; employees within exporting companies who need a basic knowledge of exporting; service firms seeking to improve their understanding of globalization. Topics include recognizing and identifying export opportunities; shipping and payment; and cultural issues, among others. Cost is $45. For more information, call 412-396-1633.

Business Energy Efficiency Grants
THROUGH APRIL 15—The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection has to $1,000,000 of grant funding available in the 13th year of the Commonwealth’s Small Business Advantage Grant Program for small businesses that adopt or acquire equipment or processes that promote pollution prevention and/or energy efficiency projects. Applicants must be a for-profit corporation, limited liability corporation, partnership, sole proprietorship or other legal entity with 100 or fewer full-time employees. Businesses can apply for 50 percent matching funds of up to $9,500 to adopt or acquire energy-efficient or pollution-prevention equipment or procedures. Funding is eligible for those costs incurred between July 25, 2016 and June 30, 2017. For more information, contact the Small Business Ombudsman’s Office at 717-772-5160.
