The City of Detroit Health Department Safe Routes Ambassador Program, in partnership with the Detroit Public Schools Community District and Michigan Fitness Foundation, invites residents to walk or bike to school on National Bike To School Day on Wednesday, May 3.

The local walking and cycling event is a coordinated effort with a country-wide effort to educate people about the benefits of walking, biking, rollerskating and other non-car options for getting around. Those benefits include developing healthier habits, helping with turning around climate change, promoting safety such as adult-supervised group walks or bike trains, and developing a stronger sense of community.

The registrations are connected to individual schools that are part of the event. The registered school with the most bikers, walkers and rollers will win 100 Detroit Tigers tickets for the Kids’ Day game on May 14. To register for the event, go to https://www.walkbiketoschool.org/registration/registerschool.php.
