Name: Angeliyah Perkins
College: Central Michigan University
What Excites you most about going to college? Mostly, the college culture. The environment despite all the Corona stuff, meeting new people. The new responsibility and being in a new space.
What does BLM mean to you as a new student: Trying to make sure you are understood and respected while attending a PWI. The responsibility to make sure our voice is heard on campus and not belittled.
Advice to Current Highschool Student: Focus. Keep your priorities straight. I had trouble focusing sometimes but then I adjusted and got focused, my grades got better. Keep positive energy, believe in yourself and don’t give up.
Personal Statement
My personal goals are to graduate from CMU with a degree in either social work, business management, or film production. Going into film I want to be able to reach out and inspire kids who are facing the same struggles I faced. Being a foster kid has allowed me to face and overcome many challenges. Creating films about what these kids face and go through has always been a dream of mine. Though if I decided to major in social work or business management I want to one day start my own foster care agency. Volunteering and hanging out with friends are somethings that I love doing in my free time. Both of these activities mean something to me and make a difference in people’s lives.
