Mosaic Youth Theatre of Detroit Presents World Premiere of “Alice & the New Wonderful”

Mosaic Youth Theatre of Detroit is thrilled to announce the world premiere of “Alice & the New Wonderful” by award-winning playwright Idris Goodwin. This highly anticipated event takes place at the Detroit Institute of Arts Film Theatre, running for two weekends from May 12-21. “Alice & the New Wonderful” follows Alice as she navigates her transition to reality after unforgettable experiences in Wonderland. The tale is taken to new heights with a soundtrack of original music and offers a fresh perspective on a timeless classic.
“This production is the manifestation of seeds planted in the winter of 2019. We began our journey down the “rabbit hole,” discussing and writing music based on the themes in Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland. The world took many twists and turns in 2020, which caused us to have to wait to tell
this story. We are so excited to finally share it with our community,” said DeLashea Strawder, Executive & Artistic Director of Mosaic Youth Theatre of Detroit.
Alice & the New Wonderful is the final production of Mosaic’s 30th Anniversary youth ensemble season and features over sixty youth actors, singers, and technicians. The group worked with a team of professional designers and teaching artists to bring the vision to the stage. Edmund Alyn Jones, the show’s director, stated, “Idris’ fresh perspective on Alice’s journey is entertaining and thought provoking, and the music celebrates Detroit’s past and future. We cannot wait to share it with our community.”
