 At 86-years-old, Ernestine Shepherd is the oldest competitive female bodybuilder in the world. To promote health and wellness, she will lead Detroit Riverwalkers along the beautiful Detroit Riverfront before sharing her inspirational life story.

The 2022 Detroit Riverwalkers Summer Series, sponsored by AARP Michigan and hosted by the Detroit Riverfront Conservancy, is a free walking program for adults 50+. The program runs every Tuesday and Thursday from 8 to 10 a.m. through August 25.  Each week, the Tuesday  program features an outdoor fitness class on the riverfront, blood pressure screenings, free giveaways and presentations on AARP’s “Best Kept Secrets.”

Named the Best Riverwalk in America in 2021 and 2022 by USA TODAY, the Detroit Riverfront attracts 3.5 million visitors annually. The Detroit Riverfront Conservancy has invested more than $200 million in the revitalization of the Detroit Riverfront, which in turn has generated more than $2 billion in public and private investment.
