Mayor Mike Duggan recently discussed the FBI investigation that led these investigators into Detroit City Hall, and into the homes of two Detroit City Council members, WDIV reported.
Duggan said that the multi-level investigation was ‘discouraging,’ because the FBI was looking into his three high-ranking officials, also members of Detroit City Council, in this corruption investigation, according to the article.
The FBI gave search warrants to councilmembers Janee Ayers and Scott Benson to search their home, according to the article.
Duggan said during a press conference that the FBI did not inform him beforehand, however, he told them about previous goings-on with former City Council members including Gabe Leland who resigned from City Council after pleading guilty to misconduct and Andre Spivey and an (unnamed) staff worker who allegedly took over $35,000 in bribery payments. According to a Detroit Free Press article, the financial compensation was part of a reported bribery conspiracy from 2016-2020 to sway city business, prosecutors said.
